Earlier, handicrafts were the only source of crafting and developing raw materials into actual products. Until the introduction of machines during the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, craftsmen business was blooming. We got so engaged in the changing technologies and facilities that we somehow forgot the essence of our Indian heritage.

Today, we get to see that our craftsmen constitute of the major population standing below the poverty line and craving to earn money with means they are not comfortable with. With limited resources and awareness back in the rural areas, the artisan’s lives came to a standstill. Let us learn some more about them.

About Artisan

Turning the pages of history, we get to know that the agricultural sector in India was practised at a large scale after which came in the non-agricultural sector. We Indians have been known to be showcasing our craft since the time we were slaves of the British, continuing to do so when we are at par with them. It seems like some things can never change.

The art which had the capability to withstand all the rough times cannot be brought to an end by us. The craftsmanship of the artisans is worth spreading all across and we will face any obstacle to prove them right.

Namaste Bamboo is inspired by the rich, timeless traditions of India, especially local artisans who have inherited their craft from generations gone by. We endeavour to do our part in enriching the lives of our extremely-talented artisans, who despite their skill and craft, still struggle to make ends meet and live a decent life. It is a small initiative from our side to help the testimony of the rich art of the country, the artisans!

Our site is inhabited with a wide selection of products from every corner of the country, direct from the artisan, NGOs working closely with artisan groups or from enterprises that directly deploy artisans in the creation of their products.
